Yacolt Washington Railroad

Today the kids and I drove out to Yacolt, WA sans Ben to ride the Yacolt Railroad. This was the first time we've riden an open top railroad and the kids thought it was really neat! We went by farms with many baby animals, several waterfalls and even stopped at a train depot to eat lunch. The whole train trip was over an hour - our longest trip to date and the kiddos did great!

Christmas Trains

In December of 2009 Ben and I took the boys along with my mom and her husband to ride the christmas train just outside of Oaks Park. This was a real STEAM engine and the boys thought it was so cool! They also got to visit with Santa Claus abord the train!

Pacific NW Live Steams

In September of 2009 we drove the boys down to Mollala to ride the minature trains at Pacific NW Live Steamers. They absolutely loved it! The trains are perfect scale minatures of larger trains and are free to ride over minature tracks and tressels. Just perfect for toddlers!

Zoo Train

Of course, we have to ride the train at the Oregon Zoo when we visit. The first time we rode the zoo train was in October of 2009.

Lakeview Farms

See, this is the problem with blogging months after the event - you get the details all mixed up.

So before the train in Garibaldi the kids got to ride the train at Lakeview Farms to select their pumpkins for Halloween. They LOVED this train because it was just their size but was perfectly to scale so it looked just like a real train!

Garibaldi Train

Every November our family goes on the CitysEdge all church retreat. In 2009 on our way back from Rockaway we had to stop to see the stationary trains in Garibaldi. Jacob was asleep in the car so he didn't get to enjoy crawling around the old engine like Jackson.

Why blog about trains?

I decided to blog our family train adventures primarily because our kids LOVE to ride trains and because lately I haven't had enough time to scrapbook and this seems like a good way to keep organized.

We started riding trains with the kids fairly early on. Trying to remember the details is a little hazy but we rode Max first followed by the train at Oaks Park on Jacob's first birthday.

Both of our boys LOVED this train and thus began our love affair with the railroad:
